New Year is a great time to start
fresh. You can organize your closet, declutter your kitchen, or even revamp
your home. To understand which design trends
will be most popular in our living spaces by 2022, we analyzed data from
industry surveys.
It turns out that many of the most
popular home design ideas for 2022 were revisions of concepts from previous
years. However, this is not due to lack of imagination. It’s more likely that we are still focusing on our needs and
preferences. We live in an era where
self-assurance and uniqueness reign supreme.

home design trends architects and interior designers have seen grow over time -
and those they expect will disappear as we get closer to 2022.
Seeing Green
Studies have shown that indoor plants can improve indoor air quality and focus, even before COVID-19 lockdowns. As we settle into the work-from-home lifestyle, people are naturally seeking ways to bring the outdoors into their homes.
Biophilic design has gained popularity in recent years. It focuses on
creating peaceful, plant-filled environments that connect with nature. Our collective love for lush indoor environments will only continue to
increase in 2022.
It won’t be only greenery-filled
living or working spaces that will be in demand over the next year.
Green-painted interiors will also be very popular, with everything from
whimsical accents on bathroom cabinets and entire painted living rooms.
For adding whimsical touches to your
home, wallpapers and fabrics featuring flora or fauna patterns will be a
popular choice. Think harness leaf themes,
forest-inspired colours, whether you are embracing the trend with your indoor
garden or decorating your rooms in emerald and moss-toned accents.
Reclaimed
Materials
It appears that we will be looking
for “greener” materials in the next year. According to the Interior Designer Trends Survey of an online
marketplace, sustainable materials will be dominant in 2022. The survey
surveyed many interior designers from its trade program and asked them their
preferences for the year.
There was a frenzy in property
purchases for 2020 and 2021. People felt more compelled than ever
to purchase products that were durable and useful. These habits will be abandoned by more people. We might be able to see an antidote in 2022 with interiors that have a
longer life span and are more elegant and efficient than ever before.
In both interior and exterior design,
reclaimed wood and stone will be very popular.
Reusing old materials is becoming a
more popular building approach. We are more interested in improving
the performance of existing structures than creating new ones. This trend has been slowly emerging over the years, with innovative
adaptive reuse projects that range from warehouse restorations to barn
conversions.
It is also possible to use reclaimed
wood and stone in interior design and building.

Earthy
Textures
You will see tactile materials such
as wood, plaster, copper and leather, along with finishes with natural
textures. I expect to see more earthier
finishes in 2022 like lime washes, plaster, clay, and clay.
Textures like scraped plaster, harder
clay, and grainy staccos will be more common. These are popular interior finishes because of their water resistance
and durability. However, I think they will soon be used outside on custom
furniture.

Experts believe that people are
increasingly looking for antique, vintage, and handcrafted decor and furniture
for their homes. There is a growing interest in craft
objects, which can be enjoyed more when people realize how difficult it is to
make. This is due to people taking the time to learn and trying new things like
baking, painting, and ceramics.

Craft skills are being increasingly
valued with the rise of natural wines and archival textiles. The smooth-out design styles of Memphis and Scandinavian influence are
being replaced by intricately-made and old decorative shapes.
We might see more vestibules and
corridors in 2022. Sideboards and consoles that can be
used as sideboards are also a possibility. As accessories, look for large table lamps, large candlesticks and
quilts as well as rustic linens and patterns.

There may be more experimentation
with edges such as ruffles and pleats in upholstery, instead of using more
traditional materials. Although some of these decorative
elements may have been a bit stuffy in the past, I believe they can be made
more modern and lively by being paired with bolder colors or patterns.
Wavy
Geometry
Round elements will be popular in
2022. However, the trend will expand to other areas of the house and take on
new forms. Although wave-like undulations are
common in furniture, I think we will see them more often in stone backsplash
detail and millwork. This pattern can be used in many
different situations.
Curvilinear components are expected to increase in the home. This includes sofas with curvilinear edges, arched windows and doors, as well as sofas with rounded edges. To join the trend, incorporate circular structural elements such as waterfall corners on countertops, workstations, consoles, and headboards. Alternatively, choose less-permanent designs such as drum tables.
